iGSSU Individual Guerrilla Storage+Sleep Unit

Los Angeles homeless problem is prominent and deserves attention. They are unwelcomed in different areas and face a lot of challenges. My client is one of them. Diego’s a more introvert, depressed, hopeless person. He lots his family and job. He dose not want to have any interaction with others, although he is not reluctant to communicate a little. The project needs to address how to revive his hope.
Hope is a very complicated matter. A goal is something that motivates a person to live, to work, to thrive. Even if the goal is something unachievable or a lie, when the person believes it, he will do it. Diego lots his family and fell into the despair hell. If there is an opportunity, even a tiny opportunity for him to believe he can find his family, that can have a chance to fix this broken man. If we have a unit instead of attaching to a fixed permanent location, he will have a small searching distance. However, if we construct the unit attached to a train, he can travel around and have more chance to see his family again. Therefore, my proposal is to attach the unit to an Amtrak train at Union Station, where the trains will bring him to areas that are far away.
The unit will match the height of the train so to make it a coherence appearance that it won’t stand out too much. However, it should have it identity, so the shape is different from the other sections of the train. Diego has low self-esteem, so providing something unique to him might boost his dignity. The envelop has glazing around for providing sunlight during his journey. Windows and roof pound will be provided for the change of temperature since the train will travel to lots of different regions.
Materials will match the train for exterior since it will not draw too much attention, and it can reflect the heat. The interior will be wood with white so to provide a calmer and warmer environment. He can relax there and escape from the busy city. Hopefully this can help curing his depressions and provide him a better reason to thrive and live.
